These days I am learning taekkyon with my friends at school. At the beginning of the “free semester”, we can choose any class we want. It’s similar to to a university’s class registration system.
Taekkyon resembles fluid dance movements. Players use kicks and an opponent’s moves to knock them down. Taekkyon is the first martial art to join the UNESCO World Heritage list. However, it has remained unknown to the world outside of Korea for centuries. During this time, Chinese kung fu and Japanese karate have become popular.
Today was my second taekkyon lesson, so it is still a little hard for me.
Yesterday, I saw the movie Titanic. The characters are played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. An expedition found The Titanic – Ship of Dreams. They have wanted a diamond in a safe, but they can’t it and discover a photo of a woman. The woman in the picture is wearing the diamond necklace. One grandmother sees this on the TV news and calls the expedition team. She says she is the woman in the picture. So the expedition takes her on the expedition. That grandmother tells her story to the team.
Rose boards the Titanic with her fiance and her mother. She always suffers from the strict social order of the early 20th century. Jack wins a ticket for the Titanic from gambling 5 minutes before the ship sets sail. The third-class passenger Jack see the first-class passenger Rose and falls in love with her. By chance that night Jack sees Rose try to commit suicide. He saves her with his witty speaking ability. So Rose’s fiance invites Jack to a dinner party in the 1st class cabin. After the dinner party, they go to the 3rd-class cabin’s party and they fall in love with each other. After that, no one can stop their forbidden love.
Yesterday, Phoebe’s parents (my aunt and uncle) and her younger brother Philip came to Grandma’s house. Philip is a 3-year-old boy, but he’s really active. So my family has difficulty with him. Phoebe is a 6-year-old girl but she looks like an elementary school student. Philip likes me very much, so he always follows me. He doesn’t always listen.
Sometimes he acts like a little, cute baby. He imitates a gorilla, a tiger, a dog, a cat, and a gumiho (a 9-tailed fox). My favorite is his gumiho. He holds his head and howls, “Ahooh~!” He is really cute! I have fallen in love with him. ♥
Yesterday I saw the movie Romeo and Juliet. I’ve read the book Romeo and Juliet lots of times but saw the movie for the first time. I thought the movie would be boring. But actually it was really interesting. It is the modern version of Romeo and Juliet but the story and dialogue are the same. Leonardo DiCaprio is really handsome in the movie. But now, he is just like an obese uncle.
Claire Danes doesn’t seem pretty. Iris and I think DiCaprio is wasted on her. She is not who I had in mind for Juliet.
My favorite scene is when the two main characters first meet. It is unrealistic but so lovely.
My cousin Phoebe has been staying at Grandma’s house for more than two weeks. Thanks to her, we have suffered from nightmares every night since then. She has caused so much trouble.
First, she tells lies to Grandma. Then Grandma always scolds Iris and me. Phoebe doesn’t like me very much. So, if she gets angry, she tells likes to Grandma like “Ivy punched me!” and cries. It is really unfair that Grandma trusts Phoebe more than me. She thinks young children can’t tell lies, but Phoebe isn’t a normal child. She is like the devil!
Second, she makes our house messy. When she finishes playing, she doesn’t clean up her toys and dolls. So Iris and I have to clean them up. It is really unfair.
And Phoebe is hateful! Sometimes she pees on the floor. It smells really bad! She is 6 years old, so I can’t understand why she pees on the floor.
Third, we can’t concentrate on our work. When I study or do my work, she disturbs me. She comes to me and says, “Play with me!”, “Turn on the television!”, and so on . . .
Fourth, she speaks rudely to us. If she gets angry, she says, “You are a pig, a fool, a stupid girl!” I get very angry, so I say, “Be quiet! You are a bigger pig and fool!” Then she cries. Then Grandmas scolds me.
Today we completed our newspaper. It is really gorgeous, and it looks like a real newspaper. My article was published on the front page, so I was really proud of myself. The Eojeong Post is very kind. It contains lots of things.
Our motto is KIND. It is a kind of acrostic. K means “keen”. We made a newspaper for keen minds. I means “influence”. Our newspaper has a significant influence on readers. N means “needful”. People need our newspaper. Finally, D means “develop”. Our newspaper is developing every day.
Keen Influence Needful Develop
I came up with our motto. Aren’t I clever? I’m good at writing poems like these. It seems very difficult. In fact, it’s very simple. Why don’t you try to write one?
This is an article I wrote for my English club newspaper The Eojeong Post.
Former soccer player David Beckham recently celebrated his daughter Harper’s birthday.
On July 11th, David Beckham posted a happy birthday message with a picture of himself and his daughter Harper. He said, “Sweet dreams my little 4 year old. I think Harper Seven has had a fun packed day with her little friends. Good night little lady ❤”.
Photo contains the image of Beckham and Harper wearing a party hat. Harper wears her blonde hair down as Beckham kisses her shoulder.
In 1999, David Beckham married Victoria Beckham. They have three sons and one daughter.
Jane Goodall was born in London, England on April 3, 1934. She studies and takes care of chimpanzees. She worked in Africa. At first, she worked in Kenya and three years later, she went to Tanzania. She is the most famous primatologist in the whole world. I really admire her because, despite her age, she is committed to her work. Chimpanzees are similar to people in appearance. Her job is dangerous because it’s possible to be killed by chimpanzee hunters. However, she isn’t afraid at all. In 1975, she established “The Jane Goodall Institute” to research, educate, and protect wild animals. After learning about Jane Goodall’s career, I can understand why she is called the Mother of Chimpanzees.
